2nd Grade Art

These are the craziest sandwiches ever!  Second graders

created them with colored pencil and sharpies.

Students painted these southwestern buildings using

the wet-on-wet watercolor technique with black glue lines.

They learned to use analogous colors when choosing colors

to blend together.

Henri Rousseau was a self taught artist from the late 1800's

that is best known for his jungle paintings.  He was the

inspiration for these jungle prints.  Student drew on foam,

printed their jungles, then printed their animals separately

with different colored inks, and lastly added a touch more

color with plastic crayons.

Many people are familiar with American artist, Laurel Burch,

and the cat designs that made her famous.  They are

often seen on bags, gifts, jewelry, and more.  The second

graders used several mediums to achieve these beautiful

cat pictures inspired by Burch's artwork.  They drew with

glue, painted the glue with paint markers, and then filled

in with soft pastels.

After completing the Burch inspired cat pictures, we made

these adorable clay cats our of red clay and glaze.

Second Graders overlapped objects to create space and

learned about atmospheric perspective and painting

color gradations when creating these cityscapes.

We did a fun lesson on Hawaiian tiki gods and created

our own version in sharpie.  We ran out of time before

we could add the color but still ended up with some

real characters!
